Single-Command Local Nomad Cluster with Docker

A Docker Compose and script package that spins up a developer-friendly Nomad and Consul cluster for local scheduling tests.

Testing job configurations locally can be tedious. This project packages Nomad, Consul, and Vault in a single Docker Compose setup, allowing developers to test allocations in seconds.

Architecture Structure

The lab containerizes the primary HashiCorp components:

  • Consul: Service discovery agent.
  • Nomad: Dev-mode scheduler cluster.
  • Vault: Local secrets provider.

Running the Cluster

Clone the lab repository and execute the start command:

# Start cluster services in the background
docker compose up -d

# Verify cluster status
nomad node status

This configuration maps local ports so you can access the Nomad and Consul web interfaces directly.
